RGB Lights
For those who want a light display that goes above and beyond expectations, RGB lights are the way to go. RGB lights, or Red-Green-Blue lights, are a type of lighting technology that enables fixtures to change color without changing the bulb. The applications are endless and entirely open to creativity and customization.
How do they work?
The internal element of the typical light bulb is simple and not normally designed to do anything more than light up an area, sometimes at different intensities. Inside of every RGB light fixture, there are three smaller colored light bulbs. The red, green and blue mini-lights mix together at varying intensities to create the vast range of colors.
What can they do?
The more high-end the fixture and the brain of the system, the more complicated and customizable the light displays have the potential of being. This can mean everything from programming a strand to change from one custom color to the next to having a wall of lights that responds to sound change and music. The sky’s the limit.
What can I do with them?
Because this is a type of technology, there are a number of companies who offer a wide array of products, each with a different niche market in mind. Some offer smaller, more traditional looking lights that can be used for displays in trees or event decorations. Other companies specialize in permanent outdoor lighting for homes. The gallery below offers different examples of product options.
As can be expected, prices on the lights are more expensive than the traditional one color strands. For the more complicated light display setups, one should expect to buy the lights, general hardware, and the central control mechanism for the system. Some brands are controlled by an external box that can be then controlled by an app. Others have manual controls. We work one on one with our clients to determine the best product for their display and desired level of involvement.
These lights are perfect for people who really want to take control of their displays and give a big wow factor. Like with any of our other lights, those that are seasonal will be installed, removed and then stored in the offseason. Permanent light displays will be regularly maintenanced, so all of the behind the scenes work is hands off. We strive to make light display ownership as easy as possible. We take care of the upkeep so all you have to worry about is picking the color.
