Five Of The Best Halloween Light Shows Posted To YouTube
If you have been following us on social media over the past week then you have seen our excitement for the upcoming Halloween holiday! Next to Christmas (our favorite holiday) Halloween is the second largest holiday in terms of how much money Americans spend annually. In 2016, it was estimated that Americans would spend $8.4 billion on costumes, candy, decorations, and trips to haunted houses. From this number (which is only expected to grow) it can be assumed that most people celebrate Halloween in some way during the month of October.
Since our specialty is lights, for this week’s blog we thought we would again focus on lights; Halloween lights. If you have ever visited YouTube around Halloween then it is almost a guaranteed that you saw at least one video of someone’s house decorated for Halloween, complete with decorations and lights timed to popular songs. This week, we will be revealing our picks for five of the best Halloween light shows that have been posted to YouTube.
1) Kevin Judd’s Party Rock Anthem Show
This Halloween light show is more than likely the most recognized light show on YouTube. When the video was first posted six years ago it became a viral sensation. The video features lit up faces that sing to LMFAO’s hit song “Party Rock Anthem”. In fact, the show was so popular that thousands of people per day were reported to camp out in front of Judd’s house in Riverside, Calif. Just to catch the show live. LMFAO even visited the house to film a commercial and use as part of their American Music Awards performance that year. Judd also created light shows to to go with Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” , and “This Is Halloween” from the hit movie the Nightmare Before Christmas. Unfortunately in 2012 Judd’s display was shut down by his neighborhood association leaving him unable to produce future shows. Currently, the Party Rock Anthem video stands at almost 14 million views with many more to come. Take a look at Judd’s masterpiece below.
2) Edwards Landing Lights “What Does The Fox Say?” & “Gangnam Style”
After Judd was shut down in 2011, Edwards Landing Lights decided to enter the ring by producing a lit display similar to Judd’s. In 2012 the company produced light display to the hit song “Gangnam Style” by Psy, and in 2013 produced a display to Ylvis’ one hit wonder “What Does The Fox Say?”. In 2014, the company produced continued their Halloween display trend and produced a display to the song “Bang Bang” by Ariana Grande, Jessie J, and Niki Minaj. In total, these videos have racked up more than 12 million views, and the company continues to produce lit display videos today. 3) Odessa West’s “Crazy Train” Show
You never hear much about Odessa, TX, but when it comes to crazy Halloween lighting displays they put themselves on the map. The West family has made a name for themselves when it comes to Halloween lights. In 2011, the family produced a show to Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train” that earned more than 1.4 million views. Other popular OdessaWest productions include a display to Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”. Below is the video that put them on the map.
4) Steve Jandick and Nick Thomas’ Naperville, Ill. Displays
About 30 minutes west of Chicago sits the city of Naperville, Ill. nestled in the Chicago suburbs. You may have heard of Naperville before as it is consistently listed as one of the best places to live in the U.S. Every year Steve Jandick and Nick Thomas spend countless hours working on a Halloween light display that features a hit song. With more than 15 years of experience producing Halloween light displays, these two know what they are doing. Every year around Halloween Thomas’ yard can be seen filled with elaborate decorations such as ghosts, skeletons, goblins, and pumpkins. Some of the duo’s most notable work includes display’s set to Fall Out Boy’s “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark”, The XX’s “Intro”, Rob Zombie’s “Dragula”, and Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face”. According to local reports the show draws in thousands of people per year. Check out some of their work below.
5) MarkH3474’s “Ghostbusters” Show
This light show set to the theme song from the hit movie Ghostbusters has been a bit of a mystery since appearing on YouTube in 2011. However, MarkH3474’s display video has received more than 1.8 million views with lights flashing in the darkness that look like ghosts emerging from the shadows. According to MarkH3474’s YouTube account he has also produced displays to the songs “I Put A Spell On You”, “Thriller”, “I Got A Feeling”, and many more.
